Felipe Vareschi is an experimental electronic musician and performer currently based in Berlin. Their music explores the relationship between people and objects, with a particular focus on the interactions between individuals, technology and nature.

Felipe’s journey towards experimental music began when they received their first laptop; entranced by how a few simple clicks could generate sound from a computer, Felipe would spend innumerable hours experimenting with sound but without ever focusing on composing a piece of music. These early experiences with digital audio created the foundation for Felipe’s future musical work by establishing “play” as a critical element of their creative process.

“In High school, I would walk to school for about fifteen minutes every morning. I would pass by empty squares, church courtyards, idyllic narrow alleys, and practically every other charming little thing that the Italian cityscape provides. I’d always have music playing in my earbuds; it allowed me to daydream and escape the reality of my surroundings. One morning though, the cable of my trusty IE80s broke from excessive use, and I had to endure my morning walk without music. That was the first time I really paid attention to the soundscape around me. Instead of daydreaming with music, I daydreamed through the sound of the Cathedral’s bell tower ringing, the pigeons flying away from me when I crossed the park, the tiny truck zooming past me to deliver pastries to all the local Bars. I never felt that joyous when walking through my city before; at that moment, I realized what my purpose as a musician was. I try to re-create that same feeling with my music. I want people to pay attention to the sounds around them and form deep connections with their surroundings through sound”.

After this revelation, in 2016, Felipe started a series of Sound Studies focused on exploring artist-technology relationships, finding inspiration from both technology itself and classic themes such as metamorphosis, the interior life of inanimate objects and the idea of art as a metabolic act. Felipe Vareschi is always on the lookout for new ways of expressing the complicated relationships that define modern life through the medium of sound. By harnessing the infinite tonal range of electro-acoustic instrumentation, Felipe strives to develop a new musical language aimed at understanding and describing how we interact with our surroundings through technology in the broadest sense of the word. “I want people to value sound to the same social standard of painting or architecture, music is not only a source of mass entertainment, but it’s also a powerful aesthetic tool that can help us understand ourselves and the world around us.”
